About Ben En
Ben En National Park was established under Decision No. 33/CT dated 27th of January in 1992 of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Vietnam (now Prime Minister). In the past the forests around Lake Song Muc were subject to economic exploitation. To protect the rich biodiversity in 1986 the area was converted to Ben En Nature Reserve. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) finally gave Ben En the status of a national park. Since 2008 Ben En is under management of Forest Protection Department Thanh Hoa.

Information
Ben En National Park, 45km Southwest of Thanh Hoa City, is situated on the transition between the broad coastal plain of Thanh Hoa/Nghe An provinces and the peak of northern Truong Son mountain range. (Coordinates: 19º 28’ to 19º 41’ N 105º 20’ to 105º 35’ E).
Ben En’s total area of 14,735 ha is divided into the following subdivisions:
- Strictly protected forest comprises 6273.5 hectares which is mainly located in the southwest of the park.
- Ecological restoration zones comprise 6461.5 hectares mainly located in the northern region.
- Administrative and tourism areas are spread over approximately 2,000 ha. It contains the national park headquarters, forest stations, the visitor centre and parts of Lake Song Muc.
The buffer zone has an area of 31,054 ha, including 12 communes of which 7 communes are situated in Nhu Xuan district and 5 in Nhu Thanh district.
